Program The Planet in 2050 Workshop, 26 – 31 October 2008

The International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), which leads a world-wide research effort on global environmental change, often invites world experts to discuss issues related to the fate of the planet. An exploratory workshop focusing on the evolution of the planet and its human inhabitants in the decades ahead will be held at the Grand Hotel in Lund, Sweden from 26-31 October, 2008. The purpose of this Workshop is to:

(i) describe a number of desirable futures for Earth between the years 2030 and 2050;
(ii) explore pathways to move from the present situation toward those futures; and
(iii) identify more immediate constraints to, and opportunities for, moving human environment  systems onto the more desirable pathways.
